We know that the holidays can be a stressful time for many reasons and if you have sleep apnea, they can be even more stressful. If you are suffering from insomnia and apnea during Thanksgiving and Christmas, you may be more fatigued than usual, especially when it comes to traveling and holiday activities. Whether you are traveling for the holidays or staying home with family, the following tips are sure to help you with your apnea during the holiday season:

  • Rest up– It is essential to get plenty of rest the day before you plan to travel. If you are planning to take a road trip to your holiday destination, we recommend making sure that you get a full night rest the night before you plan to travel. This will ensure that you are not drowsy behind the wheel. If you are traveling for the holidays by car, it is crucial for your safety and other drivers’ safety that you are well rested before hitting the road.
  • Recreate optimal sleeping conditions– If you are traveling, we recommend trying to recreate the circumstances in which you sleep best. If you sleep with a noise machine or a particular pillow, we recommend bringing these items along with you to promote a better nights’ sleep. We believe that it is important to stick as closely to your normal sleeping habits as possible and recreate your optimal sleeping conditions to improve your sleep wherever you are staying.
  • Plan for travel– If you are traveling by plane to a different time zone, plan accordingly to the new time zone. Allot time for rest if you are traveling and might have jetlag upon arrival. On the other hand, if you can sleep on the plane, bring a comfortable plane pillow, headphones, and a sleep mask to get the best travel beauty rest possible.

Everyone deserves a great night’s sleep, especially during the holiday season.
